Determining Statistically Robust Changes in Ungulate Browsing Pressure as a Basis for Adaptive Wildlife Management

چکیده

Ungulate browsing has a major impact on the composition and structure of forests. Repeatedly conducted, large-scale regeneration inventories can monitor extent pressure its impacts forest development. Based respective results, necessity wildlife management activities such as hunting, fencing, etc., be identified at landscape scale. However, have rarely been integrated into decision making. In this article, we evaluate inventory method which was carried out in Bavarian Forest National Park between 2007 2018. We predict by calculating probabilities using logistic mixed effect model. To provide managers with feedback their activities, developed test assess significant changes probability different periods. find minimum observable change, simulated ungulate based data potential indicator species (Sorbus aucuparia) Park. Sorbus aucuparia is evenly distributed, commonly found, selectively browsed meets ecosystem development objectives our study area. were able to verify change down ±5 percentage points sample size about 1,000 observations per run. view annual fluctuations pressure, estimation accuracy seems sufficient. seeking maximal cost-efficiency, reduce sensitivity analysis two thirds without severe loss information for management. findings, presented combined evaluation tool robust efficient instrument herbivores that are other regions.

today, information technology and computers are indispensable tools of any profession and translation technologies have become an indispensable part of translator’s workstation. with the increasing demands for high productivity and speed as well as consistency and with the rise of new demands for translation and localization, it is necessary for translators to be familiar with market demands an...

A Novel Robust Adaptive Trajectory Tracking in Robot Manipulators

In this paper, a novel adaptive sliding mode control for rigid robot manipulators is proposed. In the proposed system, since there may exist explicit unknown parameters and perturbations, a Lyapunov based approach is presented to increase system robustness, even in presence of arbitrarily large (but not infinite) discontinuous perturbations. To control and track the robot, a continuous controll...

Browsing lawns? Responses of Acacia nigrescens to ungulate browsing in an African savanna.

We measured browsing-induced responses of Acacia trees to investigate "browsing lawns" as an analogy to grazing lawns in a semiarid eutrophic African savanna. During the two-year field study, we measured plant tolerance, resistance, and phenological traits, while comparing variation in leaf nitrogen and specific leaf area (SLA) across stands of Acacia nigrescens, Miller, that had experienced ma...

Using eDNA to experimentally test ungulate browsing preferences

Large herbivores may affect ecosystem processes and states, but such effects can be difficult to quantify, especially within multispecies assemblages. To better understand such processes and improve our predictive ability of systems undergoing change, herbivore diets can be studied using controlled feeding trials (or cafeteria tests). With some wildlife, such as large herbivores, it is impracti...
